How do we remove earwax?
Our experts perform earwax removal via micro suction (a gentle vacuum), irrigation (using water) or the use of gentle sterile instruments.

How much does it cost?
Our earwax removal costs £50 for one ear, or £70 for both. If there is no wax present, we charge £25 for the consultation. We may do further testing should we find that your ears are clear when you arrive.
Should you need a second appointment if the wax is too stubborn, we charge £20.

Medical History
Your Audiologist will take a brief medical history in relation to your ears.
Examination
Your ears will be examined and images recorded using a video otoscope, and you will be able to see the images of the inside of your ears on a screen.
Explanation
The earwax removal process will be explained to you thoroughly throughout.
Procedure
The earwax removal procedure will be performed using the methods described by the Audiologist.
Review
Once complete, we will take another set of images of your ears, using our video otoscope, so you can see your healthy ear drums!
Follow Up
In some circumstances, we may not be able to remove all the wax in one session. In which case you will be advised and booked in for a second session at a reduced cost of £20.

During your earwax removal consultation at Hearing Aid Solutions, our fully trained audiologists and hearing care assistants will always examine your ears using an otoscope (a specialist tool to see inside your ear canal clearly).
If we identify any signs of pathology that we have concerns about, even if it’s something as basic as an ear infection, we will either (depending on the circumstance) write directly to your GP requesting a referral to ENT, or we will provide you with the full information and ask you to book an appointment with your GP for treatment and/or medical opinion, as appropriate.

We will first take you into the clinic room and discuss your history, and the forms you have filled in. We’ll then be able to show you the inside of your ear canals on the monitor using a camera (video otoscopy).
If there is wax present, we can remove the wax via either micro suction, irrigation, manual removal or a combination of all three. Once the earwax is removed, we will show you what your ear canals look like so you can see the difference between before and after.
We will also give you any post-procedure advice and/or guidance. If there is no wax present, we can either test your hearing, or do tympanometry (which tests the function of your middle ear). Both of these services incur a £35 charge (which includes the £25 consultation charge).
When performed by an appropriately trained and qualified professional, microsuction earwax removal is accepted as the safest and most effective method of earwax removal, and is suitable for all kinds of ears, including those that have undergone surgery.
Unlike ear syringing, no liquids or chemicals are put into your ears during microsuction. This means that there is a lot less mess and the procedure has fewer risks associated with it.
Microsuction also allows your audiologist or registered hearing care assistant to use a head-worn microscope, providing a clear view of the ear canal and eardrum, and good depth of vision at all times during the earwax removal process.
Appropriately trained professionals have the skills and experience to perform microsuction safely. However, it’s worth noting that, being unregulated, earwax removal services may be advertised by those who do not hold an appropriate clinical qualification.
Hearing Aid Solutions can remove earwax through a number of methods – microsuction, irrigation or manual removal. Microsuction is the safest method of removing earwax. We will look down your ear canal with a microscope and use a small suction probe to vacuum the excess wax.
Irrigation (or sometimes confused with ear syringing – but it is different), is when the earwax is washed away via a gentle water pump.
Manual removal is the process of removing earwax using tiny and gentle specialist tools.
You will be asked to soften the wax 3-4 days before the appointment. You can use olive oil or bicarbonate of soda drops. It is best to lay down on the opposite side to the ear being treated for 10 minutes to allow the drops to soak down your ear canal.
